Learning Disabilities
In addition to other services we work with people of all ages who have a learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour.
Families of people with learning disabilities are often unique amongst carers. For many they will be experiencing a lifetime of caring, for a son, daughter or sibling with learning disabilities who are living a longer and more fulfilling life than compared to thirty or forty years ago. People with learning disabilities can have lifelong, complex conditions resulting in mild to severe social, communication, and thought and behavioural impairments.
Social inclusion and interaction is essential to enable people to access the community and be involved in day to day activities and daily living. This can mean ‘sits’ at home with carers to enable parent/carer relief, to undertake activities such as baking, board games, colouring, puzzles etc. But also trips and outings to bowling alleys, cinemas, parks, museums, cafes etc.
Educational assistance can be provided to assist someone to attend school, college and university classes.
This assistance is usually referred to 06 Care through the local authority or Health. However private arrangements can also be made.
